Canada’s heartthrob Prime Minister and America’s upcoming solo artist join forces for a charity single set to be released during the World Refugee Day this June 20, 2017.
The Prime Minister’s Office of Canada has confirmed the collaboration, saying:
The Prime Minister has accepted an offer to collaborate with the Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello for a charity single to benefit refugees. His decision to accept this collaboration is born from his commitment to have the voices of each refugee heard – whether it is the 10,000 refugees that Canada has accepted or the thousands more who are still waiting to be accepted into safe countries. Refugees have been and are still very close to his heart and he could not wait to work with Ms. Cabello on a shared passion.
This collaboration was also confirmed by Roger Gold, the manager of Camila Cabello, who released this statement:
I am pleased to inform you that Camila Cabello is in fact, collaborating with the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, for a charity single benefiting refugees. The refugee crisis issue has always been something close to Camila’s heart as she herself went through the same struggles as they did when her family chose to leave Cuba for the United States. Camila hopes that this collaboration will bring more light into the refugee crisis that is currently ongoing.
Prior to release of the upcoming charity single, Camila Cabello is also one of the thirteen headlining artists of Welcome!, a fundraising concert of the ACLU for the benefit of refugees this April 3, 2017. Would she drop additional details on the upcoming charity single during this concert?
On the other hand, the closest that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has to doing a charity single was back in 2004 (four years before he entered politics) where he participated in a remake of John Lennon’s “Give Peace A Chance” for the song’s 35th anniversary. The remake was done for Amnesty International and it was shot in the infamous Suite 1742 of the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal. Justin’s part is at 1:13 of the video below:
This is the second time that Camila Cabello is to collaborate with a Canadian. The first time was in 2015 when she collaborated with Canadian singer Shawn Mendes for “I Know What You Did Last Summer” which was also her first solo single.
Since Camila has collaborated with two Canadians up to date, could this signal a career move to Canada? Perhaps this Tweet could answer the question:
